DECHERD, TN – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has charged a juvenile with threats of mass violence following an investigation into an incident earlier this week at Decherd Elementary School.
According to an update released by the sheriff’s office, School Resource Officer Adam Isbell filed the charge on the afternoon of March 12. The charge follows what officials described as many hours of investigative work conducted by SRO Isbell, Sgt. Barry Isbell and Investigator Shawn Malhoit.
Authorities say the investigation began after a threatening note was discovered at the school on Monday. The note referenced a possible incident that could occur on Friday, which officials say led to confusion among some community members about the timeline of events.
The sheriff’s office said it wanted to address misinformation circulating about the situation and clarify that the note was discovered Monday and did not originate from an event that occurred the previous Friday.
Because the suspect is a juvenile, law enforcement officials say they cannot release the individual’s name. Authorities also said they will not disclose specific details about the security measures being implemented at the school.
Officials emphasized that the safety of students, teachers and staff remains a top priority. Enhanced security measures have been in place at the school during the course of the investigation.
The sheriff’s office says the case has been thoroughly investigated and addressed but encourages anyone with additional information related to the incident to contact their office directly.
Law enforcement officials also thanked the community for its continued support and cooperation in helping maintain safe school environments across Franklin County.
