The Franklin County Rebelettes continue to show their resilience in the heart of the District 12 race.
Despite being without leading scorer Gracen Baggett due to illness, Franklin County leaned on leadership, defense, and timely scoring to escape Lawrence County with a 54–53 road victory Tuesday night. The win moves the Rebelettes to 16–9 overall and 5–1 in district play, placing them alone atop the district standings with a pivotal showdown looming Friday night.
Franklin County came out sharp once again, continuing a recent trend of fast starts. The Rebelettes opened the game on a 12–4 run and controlled the first quarter, building a 22–10 advantage. They maintained that momentum into the second quarter and carried a 29–19 lead into halftime.
But as has been the case in recent games, the second half proved far more challenging.
Lawrence County began chipping away in the third quarter behind a dominant performance from Ryann Hughes, who put the Lady Wildcats on her back. Hughes scored 34 of Lawrence County’s 53 points, including 21 in the second half, as the Lady Wildcats erased Franklin County’s double-digit lead. An 11–4 Lawrence County run to close the third quarter tied the game at 38–38 heading into the final period.
With momentum swinging and another late lead in danger of slipping away, it was Na’Kayjah Holman who steadied the Rebelettes.
Holman delivered the best scoring performance of her season when her team needed it most, finishing with 31 points — including 21 in the second half and 14 of Franklin County’s 16 points in the fourth quarter. Her ability to attack and finish at the rim allowed Franklin County to survive a tense final stretch.
The Rebelettes used an 8–2 run late in the fourth quarter to take a 54–50 lead in the final minute. Lawrence County hit a desperation three-pointer with less than a second remaining to cut the deficit to one, but Franklin County calmly inbounded the ball and ran out the clock to secure the win.
Aahna Carter added 11 points in a solid all-around night, while Kennedy Hall stepped into a larger role in Baggett’s absence and scored six points. Jaelyn Ritchie, Sadie Hill, and Abbey Mason each finished with two.
Following the game, head coach Darrell Jolley praised the collective effort in a postgame interview on ESPN Radio Winchester, highlighting Kenzie Arnold’s defensive presence in the paint, Carter’s steady contributions, Hall’s readiness to step in, and Holman’s leadership in the game’s biggest moments.
The win sets the stage for a massive district matchup Friday night, as Franklin County hosts Giles County. The Lady Bobcats sit at 4–2 in district play and handed the Rebelettes their only district loss earlier this season, making Friday’s contest a critical swing game in the District 12 title race. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
