January 20, 1940 – March 1, 2026
Harold Dean Garner, age 86 of Decherd, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Sherwood on January 20, 1940, to the late Buford Lee and Ona Mae (Barnes) Garner. Harold spent his work career as a truck driver, initially taking long hauls and then driving locally until his retirement. An avid outdoorsman, he just enjoyed being outside whether it was yard work or a good day of fishing. More recently, he could be found watching old black and white movies, especially westerns, or eating his favorite chicken and dumplings (without the chicken) from Cracker Barrel. A loving and generous man, Harold had a kind and selfless nature, along with strong will, that will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Garner, Raymond Garner, Gene Garner, and Mary Cussins; and sons, Keith Garner and James Eugene Garner. Harold is survived by his loving children, Amanda Garner, Tina Garner, Mitch Garner, and Michael Garner; grandson, Rhett Garner; siblings, Deloris Campbell, Wanda Sanders, Sandra Steele, Kenneth Garner, and Bill Garner; and many nieces and nephews. No formal services are planned. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, (931)-967-2222, www.moorecortner.com.
