Gloria Elizabeth Queen Fried of Fayetteville, Tennessee passed from this life on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Elk River Healthcare in Fayetteville, Tennessee at the age of 79 years.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Prospect Cemetery in Fayetteville, Tennessee with Herb Alsup officiating.
Gloria was born in Memphis, Tennessee, she is the daughter of the late Sanford and Gertrude Queen. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Queen.
After her birth in Memphis, Tennessee, she grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and in 1975 she moved to Fayetteville, Tennessee and has resided there ever since.
Gloria was sworn in as the first Woman Deputy Sheriff of Lincoln County in 1977 under Sheriff Larry Montgomery. She worked with youth programs, juvenile cases, and women prisoners.
A few years later she went into the medical field working in Medical Records for the Lincoln County Health System and worked her way through college at Motlow and went on to graduate from UAH with a Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1988. She started her nursing career as an RN at Humana Hospital in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit for 5 years, then moved on to be the Director of Nursing at Sunbridge Health Facility (currently Elk River Healthcare) for 6 years. After leaving Sunbridge, she worked at NHC in Pulaski TN and Monteagle Rehab and Wellness Center during the remainder of her career before retiring in 2009.
Gloria loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with the people she loved. She was an animal lover and enjoyed growing her flowers and tomatoes. She was also a great cook!
Her survivors include one daughter, Lisa (Jay) Mitchell, one son, Ronnie (Shannon) Fried, four grandchildren, Ryan (Whitney) Mitchell, Curtis (Christina) Mitchell, Kendall (Tyler) McGeorge, Hannah (Chris) Fried, four great grandchildren, Lexi Fried, Krue McGeorge, Bentley Mitchell, and Isla Mitchell, and one great, great grandson, Braxton Fried.
