Franklin County Schools Names New Principals for FCHS and Decherd Elementary

Franklin County Schools has officially announced new leadership at two of its campuses, as incoming Director of Schools Dr. Roger Alsup named Brittney Butner as principal of Franklin County High School and Shaunna Fortier as principal of Decherd Elementary School.

Both Butner and Fortier have been serving in interim roles, and their appointments signal a continued focus on stability and leadership continuity across the district.

“Stability in leadership is vital for the growth of our students and the morale of our faculty,” said Dr. Alsup. “Both Mrs. Butner and Ms. Fortier have stepped into their roles with a clear vision. They have already earned the trust of their staff and families, making them the ideal choices to lead these schools forward.”

At Franklin County High School, Butner transitions into the permanent principal role after previously serving as assistant principal and working in curriculum, instruction, and data. A former District Secondary Teacher of the Year (2021–2022), she brings a strong background in classroom excellence and instructional technology. She holds an Education Specialist degree in Principalship from Arkansas State University.

Butner expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying she is excited to continue working alongside the faculty, staff, and students at FCHS to build on the school’s success.

At Decherd Elementary, Fortier brings years of experience within the school and district. She has served as a K-5 instructional coach, fifth-grade teacher, and most recently as a district-level K-8 math coach, supporting instruction across multiple schools. She is currently pursuing her Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Dr. Alsup noted Fortier’s strong connection to the Decherd community and her ability to build trust with families and staff. Fortier said she looks forward to continuing to support students and creating an environment where every child feels valued and empowered.

Both principals will also be joining Dr. Alsup on The Starting Lineup with Joe Abraham and Chewy on Monday, March 23rd, giving the community an opportunity to hear directly from the district’s new leadership.

The appointments are effective immediately as both leaders step into their roles full-time.
