April Green Named Semi-Finalist for Tennessee Novice Teacher of the Year

COWAN, TN – Franklin County Schools has announced a special recognition for one of its educators, celebrating an award that highlights excellence in teaching and service to students. The district shared the following public service announcement detailing the achievement.

“Franklin County Schools is proud to announce that April Green, Discovery
Teacher at Cowan Elementary School (CES) and District Novice Teacher of the Year, has been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2026-27 Tennessee Novice Teacher of the Year Program.

This honor recognizes early-career educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication and a profound commitment to student success. Out of a competitive pool of talented new teachers across the state, Green’s impact in the classroom has placed her among the top candidates for this statewide distinction.

Cynthia Young, Principal of Cowan Elementary, expressed the school’s pride in Green’s
achievement. “Cowan Elementary is beyond thrilled that our very own April Green, Discovery Teacher, has been named a Semi-Finalist for the Novice Teacher of the Year award,” said Young. “Since joining our team, April has demonstrated an incredible passion for education and a deep commitment to her students’ success. This recognition is a direct reflection of the energy, innovation, and care she brings to her classroom every single day.”

The selection process will continue through the spring, with Green now moving into the
application phase for the statewide title. The Tennessee Novice Teacher of the Year program
highlights the importance of supporting and retaining high-quality educators as they begin their careers in the Volunteer State.
“April, your CES family is so incredibly proud of you,” Young added. “Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students. We are all rooting for you as you move into the next round!”

“April Green represents the very best of our district’s commitment to excellence in the
