As temperatures plummet to single digits and wind chill factors dip below zero this week, a vital resource is available for the homeless and others that need of warmth. The Warming Center, situated at First United Methodist Church in Winchester at the intersection of South High Street and Second Avenue Southwest, is extending its services to anyone seeking refuge from the harsh cold.
The center welcomes guests for check-in between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on designated evenings, providing a hot meal, access to showers, and a safe place to rest overnight.
Mark Stewart, a local attorney who has led the effort to establish The Warming Center, emphasized the urgent need for volunteers to help sustain and expand its operations. "We are reaching out to the community for support to ensure we can continue to provide this essential service," Stewart stated.
