On Sunday, March 23, 2025, Estill Springs police officers conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle with non-functioning tag lights. During the stop, officers noticed inconsistencies in the statements provided by the driver and passenger regarding their intended destination that evening. After a brief roadside investigation, the driver consented to a search of the vehicle.

Before the search began, the passenger admitted to the presence of marijuana inside the vehicle. Upon searching, officers discovered a loaded firearm and approximately 73.8 grams (roughly 2.5 ounces) of marijuana. Further investigation revealed that the driver is currently on parole for previous charges related to Schedule II drugs (methamphetamine) and possession of a firearm with prior drug convictions. The passenger was also identified as a convicted felon.

Following their arrest, a later search uncovered 19 oxycodone/acetaminophen pills and 6.1 grams of a white, crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Charged are Roman Cortez Cooper and Christopher O’Neal Trice, both of Tullahoma. They are being held in the Franklin County Jail under $300,000 bonds each.
