Near Disastrous Situation Controlled on I-24

On Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:46, the North Coffee Volunteer Fire Department responded to a semi-truck hauling a hazmat chemical with its rear tires and brakes on fire on Interstate 24 westbound at mile-marker 103. The truck was hauling approximately 2,300 lbs. of Nitrogen gas/resin (Autofroth) in ten separate tanks.
The fire was extinguished quickly, just as it had breached the trailer's interior. No chemicals were involved in the fire, and no chemicals were released.
North Coffee Fire thanked Manchester Fire & Rescue, Coffee County Emergency Management Agency/ Homeland Security, Coffee County Sheriff's Department, and Tennessee Highway Patrol for their assistance in safely handling this near-disastrous situation. No injuries were reported.
