Franklin County Track and Field Teams Impress at Season Opener

Franklin County High School’s boys and girls track and field teams kicked off their season with a standout performance at the Eli Cramer Early Bird Championship, held Saturday at Riverdale High School. The athletes put on a strong showing, earning 51 top-10 finishes, including five first-place victories and 27 placements in the top five.

Event Winners:

  • Jayden Smith dominated the boys 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:49.02.

  • The boys 4x800-meter relay squad—Austin Heath, Garrett Kuhar, Jayden Smith, and Josh Smith—secured first place, clocking in at 9:03.19.

  • Amarah Williams, Lily Heath, Briley Taylor, and Na’Kayjah Holman clinched the girls 4x100-meter relay, finishing in 51.77 seconds.

  • Briley Taylor soared to first in the girls high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

  • Na’Kayjah Holman took the top spot in the girls long jump, reaching 15 feet, 9 inches.

Runner-Up Finishes:

  • Josh Smith placed second in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.51.

  • Brandon Walker tied for second in the boys high jump, clearing 6 feet, 2 inches.

  • Na’Kayjah Holman earned second in the girls 200-meter dash with 27.35 seconds.

  • La’Karis Brown secured second in the girls high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.

  • Shelby Walker tied for second in the girls pole vault, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

Third-Place Performances:

  • Chase Trigg finished third in the boys 110-meter hurdles with 16.61 seconds.

  • Brandon Walker landed in third for the boys triple jump at 41 feet, 7 inches.

  • Na’Kayjah Holman placed third in the girls 100-meter dash, running 12.99 seconds.

  • Briley Taylor came in third in the girls 200-meter dash, crossing the finish at 27.82 seconds.

  • The girls 4x200-meter relay team—Illyanna Yates, Skylar Pendergraff, Shelby Walker, and Tevaeh Melton—earned third with a time of 2:01.59.

  • Briley Taylor also placed third in the girls long jump, reaching 14 feet, 11 inches.

  • Lily Heath rounded out the third-place finishes in the girls triple jump at 31 feet, 4 inches.

Other Notable Finishes:

Several Franklin County athletes earned top spots across different events:

  • Fourth Place: Luke Kelleher (Boys 110m Hurdles), Chase Trigg (Boys 300m Hurdles), Randel Taylor (Boys Pole Vault), Austin Heath (Boys Long Jump), Tyson Kennerly (Boys Triple Jump), Lily Heath (Girls 100m & 300m Hurdles).

  • Fifth Place: Loui Arellano (Boys 200m), Luke Kelleher (Boys 300m Hurdles), Shelby Walker (Girls 300m Hurdles).

  • Sixth Place: Amarah Williams (Girls 200m), Audrey Stewart (Girls 1,600m), Payton Dearing (Girls 100m Hurdles), Girls 4x400m Relay team, Kaylin Hill (Girls Triple Jump), Marisol Ibarra (Girls Shot Put & Discus).

  • Seventh to Tenth Places: Multiple athletes and relay teams secured strong finishes across various events, contributing to a successful meet for Franklin County.

The team will return to competition on Saturday at the Clester Winningham Invitational, hosted by Tullahoma High School, with events starting at 10 a.m.
