Franklin County struggled to generate offense on Thursday, falling 10-0 to Giles County, which completed the series sweep with a strong offensive showing and an effective performance from starting pitcher Caydee Pipkins.
The game began with Giles County taking an early lead in the first inning when Karson Brown delivered a solo home run to right field. The momentum continued in the second, as Brown singled down the left-field line to drive in a run, followed by a sacrifice fly that allowed Kinsley Morris to score.
A decisive third inning saw Giles County extend its lead with six runs on three hits. An error allowed one run to score, followed by a two-run single from Brown, a two-run single from Addison Douthit, and an RBI groundout by Ashlan Coleman.
Franklin County’s starting pitcher, Dalayna Marshall, allowed seven runs (three earned) on six hits over 2.2 innings, striking out one and walking two. Pipkins controlled the game from the circle, pitching a five-inning shutout while allowing only two hits, striking out six, and walking two.
Kaylee Morris and Addison Partin each recorded a hit for Franklin County, but the team was unable to build offensive momentum. Defensively, Franklin County struggled to contain Giles County’s aggressive baserunning, as the team stole six bases throughout the game.
