Doris Ann "C Bug" Simmons Obituary

Doris A. Simmons, age 74 of Winchester, passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2025, at Southern Tennessee Regional Medical Center. A native of Franklin County, she was born on February 1, 1950, and was a 1968 graduate of Franklin County High School. She was employed at Lanier in Decherd until she decided to attend LPN school in 1980. She graduated the LPN course at Methodist Hospital in 1981. Until her retirement in 2012 Doris was employed for over thirty years with Franklin County Hospital until it became Southern Tennessee Medical Center. Not able to stay at home, she returned to work at The Willows and then at Southern Manor. She retired again in 2024 after hip replacement surgery. She will also be remembered for her special gift of starting IV’s with one stick which eventually gave her the name of “The Queen of IV’s.” Doris truly loved her job of being a nurse and the care and compassion for her patients showed through her beautiful smile. Doris was a joy to the patients and would even sing to them. She also will be remembered for making the best and biggest banana pudding. Doris was preceded in death by her mother, Alma J. Fuqua; and father, Jr Fuqua; siblings, Mary, Mark, Margaret, Jamie, and Marvin Fuqua; nephews, Rontez Fuqua; great-niece, Carmen Simmons, and best friend and sister, Vicki Summers. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Shannon Burks; son-in-law, LoAnza Burks; granddaughter, Kendra (Lochelle) Burks; great-grandson, Kyson Jai Irwin; sisters, Elizabeth (Sparkie) and Jody Simmons of Winchester, and Alma Fuqua of Winchester; brothers, Willie Fuqua, Pete Fuqua (Natalie); and Mike (Estella) Fuqua, all of Winchester; two sisters-in-law, Linda Fuqua and Wilma Fuqua, both of Winchester; uncle, James (Dora) Simmons; special nephew, Jerry Simmons;  a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, as well as a host of doctors and nurses that became near and dear to her heart; and special friends, Elizabeth Coutta, Sherry and Olivia Plante, Toni Hill-McCrary, Roxann Green, and Vicki Hall. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 3, 2025, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
