Delmar “Del” Arthur Mantle, age 91 of Winchester, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at Bailey Manor in Winchester. He was born in Chamois, Missouri, on October 6, 1933, to the late Arthur Alan Mantle and Elsie (Maire) Mantle. Del graduated high school in 1951 from Chamois High School in Missouri and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. Following his service in the military, he went to the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he earned a master’s degree in 1959 in electrical engineering. He worked for Chrysler Corporation, Red Stone Arsenal, and Arnold Air Force Base, where he retired. Del was a member of the American Legion, a fifty year plus member of the Masonic Lodge Chamois No. 185 AF & AM, and a charter member of the Mizzou Military Veterans Alumni Association with the university of Missouri-Columbia. He was a man of many hobbies, they included playing cards, playing golf, watching the University of Tennessee and University of Missouri Athletics, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Club, and traveling on cruises and trains. You could find Del many mornings at Krystal’s, where he loved to eat breakfast. He was a kind, generous human being with a great sense of humor. In addition to his parents, Del is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Rieben) Mantle; siblings, Dorothy (Frank) Wuelling, Laverne (Cliff) Kiesker, Ruby (Phil) Scarpace; daughter, Loretta (Bobby) Steele; grandson, Benjamin Michael Whitworth, and Gregory Alan Posey. Del is survived by his daughter, Delma Posey; grandchildren, Kristopher Del Posey, Joseph Daniel Whitworth; great-grandchild, Julia Dream Whitworth; stepdaughter, Melaine (James) Brown; brother, Virgil (Linda) Mantle; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and special nephew, Roger (Linda) Wuelling. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 5pm-8pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 2pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Father Wesley Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Richard “Dick” Perry, Carl Scott, Dennis Taylor, Johnny Porter, Chris Rose, and Jim Temples. Honorary pallbearers are Lewis Perry, Billy “Squirrel” Rose, Mike Rudder, Scott Mantooth, and Richard Bean.
