David Wesley Ferry, age 83 of Sewanee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems in Winchester. David was born on December 9, 1941, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to the late Harold William and Irene Elizabeth (Troutner) Ferry. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he was a Specialist 4th Class. He worked for Unfrax Company in New York before retiring, and he was a volunteer firefighter in the late 1970’s – 1980’s. David was a self-driven person, who enjoyed studying Presidential History, American War History, National Parks, Ornithology (study of birds), and Numismatics (study of coins). After moving to Tennessee in 2003, he enjoyed gardening, and occasionally deer hunting. You could always find him watching or listening to Fox News. An avid sports fan, he would cheer on the Los Angeles Dodgers or Penn State Football. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Marie Lucretia Owen; brother and sister – in – law, Robert and Dorothy Ferry; niece, Traci Sepe; nephew, Robert “Bobby” Ferry; and his four-legged best friends, Amber, Rocky, and Brandi. David is survived by the love of his life, Lucretia Ferry; children, David Ferry Jr., Irene (Jonathan) Fankhauser, Daniel Ferry (Kelly Coulbourn); son-in-law, Jeff Owen; sixteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at the Life Celebration Center of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
